PHILOSOPHY (since 2014-)
비유에스건축은 2014년 박지현, 조성학이 함께 설립한 건축사사무소입니다. 우리는 일상의 사소한 사건과 보편적 풍경 속에서 새로운 관점을 발견하고, 그것을 건축적 아이디어로 전환하는 과정을 중요하게 생각합니다.
이러한 태도를 우리는 '낯설게 보기'와 '동화적 상상력'이라는 두 가지 말로 설명합니다. '낯설게 보기'는 익숙한 상황에 새로운 관점을 더해 색다른 해답을 모색하는 자세이며, '동화적 상상력'은 현실의 구조 너머에 존재하는 상상의 여백을 통해 다양한 가능성을 확장하려는 시도입니다.
예컨대, 경사진 지붕과 처마 공간을 기후에 순응하는 구조물로 이해하는 동시에 어린 시절 동화적 이야기가 펼쳐지는 상상의 무대로 바라보듯, 우리는 건축이 현실과 상상을 동시에 담아내는 그릇이 될 수 있다고 믿습니다.
비유에스건축은 2020년 젊은건축가상, 2022년 서울시건축상 우수상 및 목조건축대전 최우수상, 2023년 경상남도 건축상 특별상 등을 수상하며 이러한 태도의 실험과 확장을 이어가고 있습니다.
BUS Architects was founded in 2014 by Jihyun Park and Sunghak Cho. We place importance on discovering new perspectives in everyday events and ordinary landscapes, and on transforming them into architectural ideas.
We describe this attitude with two expressions: “defamiliarization” and “fairy-tale imagination.” Defamiliarization is the stance of adding new perspectives to familiar situations in order to seek unexpected solutions, while fairy-tale imagination is an attempt to expand possibilities by embracing the imaginative margins that exist beyond the physical structures of reality.
For example, we may understand a pitched roof and its eaves as forms that adapt to climate, while at the same time viewing them as a stage for childhood fairy tales. In this way, we believe that architecture can become a vessel that holds both reality and imagination.
BUS Architects has received the 2020 Korean Young Architect Award, the 2022 Seoul Architecture Award (Excellence Prize) and the Korea Wood Design Award (Grand Prize), and the 2023 Gyeongsangnam-do Architecture Award (Special Prize), continuing to expand and experiment with this architectural attitude.
