When the roof is at a height where it almost touches, does it feel even more like a ‘home’?
This sensation is like DNA imprinted in our bodies over a long time. The roof has always been the most maintenance-intensive part of a house, and it has likely been built at a height and slope that allow for self-maintenance.
The Gimcheon house is located within a detached housing zone designated as a district unit planning area. If a two-story mass fully utilizing the site coverage and floor area ratio allowed by the planning guidelines is built, and a sloped roof with the specified pitch is added, the roof feels like a distant and detached entity.
The Gimcheon house was designed with a smaller second floor than the first floor to intentionally expose the roof at a lower level. The roof on the first floor is positioned at a height where one could almost reach it with an outstretched hand.
The low roof extends into low eaves, blocking direct sunlight in the kitchen and dining area while also creating a cozy veranda space outside.
According to the district unit planning guidelines, commercial facilities cannot be established in areas designated as detached housing zones.
Since detached housing zones are quite expansive, it is difficult to expect scenes like in the past, where people played games at a nearby corner store or ran errands close to home.
The floor plan of the Gimcheon house includes a space called the atelier. This space is the most exposed to the outside, as it is connected to both the courtyard and the main road. Here, various activities can take place that may be difficult to carry out in areas like the living room, kitchen, or bedroom.
It can be used as a greenhouse for growing plants, a personal café, a furniture workshop, or a pottery studio, among other hobby spaces. If more of these spaces were incorporated into detached housing zones, wouldn’t it create a neighborhood with diverse lifestyles, even without commercial facilities?
지붕이 닿을락 말락 한 높이를 가질 때, 우리는 그것을 더욱 ‘집’처럼 느낀다.
이감각은 오랫동안 우리 몸에 각인된 DNA 같은 것이다. 지붕은 집을 구성하는 각 면 중에 가장 유지, 보수가 많이 필요한 면이었고, 스스로 보수가 가능한 높이와 기울기로 지어져 왔을 것이다.
김천주택은 지구단위계획구역으로 설정된 단독주택 단지 내에 위치해있다. 지구단위계획 지침상의 건폐율, 용적률을 가득 채운 2층 규모의 매스에, 역시 지침에 명기된 기울기의 경사지붕을 얹으면, 지붕은 아득히 먼 타인이 되는 느낌이다.
김천 주택은 의도적으로 지붕을 낮은 곳에 더 노출 시키기위해 2층의 면적을 1층보다 작게 계획했다. 1층에 조성된 지붕은 손을 뻗으면 닿을 법한 높이를 가지고 있다. 낮은 지붕은 낮은 처마로 이어진다. 주방과 다이닝 공간에 직사광선을 막아주고, 외부에선 아늑한 툇마루 공간을 만들어준다.
지구단위계획지침상 단독주택단지로 지정된 영역에는 상업시설이 들어 올 수 없다. 단독주택 단지는 꽤 넓기 때문에 예전처럼 집 근처 슈퍼에서 게임을 하거나, 심부름을 다녀오던 풍경을 기대하긴 어렵다.
김천주택의 평면엔 아뜰리에라고 부르는 공간이 있다. 이 공간은 마당과 주도로면에 접하여 외부에 가장 노출이 많이 되는 곳이라 할 수 있다. 이곳은 거실,주방,침실 같은 곳에서 하기 어려운 다양한 활동들이 이루어 질 수 있다. 바닥은 현관과 같은 타일류의 하드페이빙에, 층고는 경사지붕을 따라서 높게 형성되어 있고 수도설비도 들어와 있다. 식물을 키우는 온실, 개인카페, 가구공방, 도예공방 등 다양한 취미 공간으로 활용할 수 있는데, 단독주택단지에 이런 공간이 많아진다면, 상업시설이 없더라도 다양한 삶의 풍경을 담은 동네가 될 수 있지 않을까
